WYD Seoul 2027 Travel Guide: Registration, Accommodation, Transport & Things to Do
Planning to join World Youth Day Seoul 2027? This practical guide explains how pilgrim registration works, when to arrive, what to know about accommodation, and how to navigate Seoul before and after the pilgrimage.
Main event venue details and some logistics remain subject to official updates. See official pilgrim registration.
1. What is WYD Seoul 2027?
World Youth Day (WYD) is a global Catholic pilgrimage bringing young people together for prayer, community, cultural exchange and encounters with the Pope. Seoul will host the gathering from August 3 to 8, 2027. Pilgrims may also join the preceding Days in the Dioceses program across South Korea.
The theme is “Take courage! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). While sightseeing can complement your visit, the primary purpose of WYD is a shared pilgrimage of faith.
2. How to register for WYD Seoul 2027
Official registration opened on October 22, 2026. Pilgrims register as groups; individuals and small groups are encouraged to join a parish, diocese or community-organized group. The online registration system supports Korean, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian.
- Contact your parish, diocese or group leader.
- Review the official pilgrim registration guidelines and package options.
- Have your group leader complete the online registration.
- Check your package's lodging, meal, transport and payment conditions.
- Confirm passport, entry permission, travel insurance and arrival details.
Important: registration and payment for packages including accommodation close on May 31, 2027. Packages without accommodation can be registered after that date, subject to the organizer's rules. In-person registration at the Pilgrim Center is also planned; hours will be announced later.
Use the organizer's website rather than unofficial ticket or accommodation intermediaries.

First decide whether you are joining an official accommodation-inclusive pilgrim package or arranging your own hotel. If your group has organized accommodation, do not book a non-refundable hotel until you understand the group's allocation process.
For independent travelers, consider these areas as general Seoul bases — not confirmed event-site recommendations, because final venue and transport plans may change:
- Jongno / Anguk: palaces, traditional neighborhoods and central sightseeing.
- Myeongdong / Euljiro: convenient central transit and access to Myeongdong Cathedral.
- Seoul Station: useful for airport rail and intercity connections.
- Hongdae: youth-oriented dining, cafés and an airport-rail connection.
Check room cancellation policies, air-conditioning, walking distance to subway stations and late-evening travel arrangements.

4. Getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul
Incheon International Airport (ICN) is the principal international gateway for most visitors. The AREX airport railroad connects the airport with Seoul Station; depending on your destination, you may continue by subway, taxi or bus. Airport limousine buses serve many districts, but routes and fares should be checked close to departure.
If your pilgrim group arranges airport transfers, follow its meeting-point instructions rather than booking a separate transfer. Allow extra time for immigration, baggage and large-group arrivals.

5. Visas, K-ETA and travel documents
Entry rules depend on nationality, passport type and travel purpose. Some visitors may require a visa or a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA), while others may be exempt. Do not assume WYD registration replaces immigration requirements.
Check the Korea Visa Portal and the official K-ETA website before travel. Minors may need additional documents and guardian consent. The WYD organizer also has safeguarding and group-supervision rules.
6. Seoul in August: weather and packing tips
August in Seoul is typically hot and humid, with a possibility of heavy rain. Pack breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a compact umbrella or raincoat, a reusable water bottle and any essential medication. Follow the organizer's advice on bags, hydration, accessibility and event-site security.
For the most current forecast and weather alerts, consult the Korea Meteorological Administration.
7. Things to do in Seoul around WYD
If your group itinerary allows time, these cultural attractions are easy to build into a separate sightseeing day. They are not announced WYD event venues.
- Myeongdong Cathedral: a meaningful historic Catholic site in central Seoul.
- Gyeongbokgung Palace and Gwanghwamun: a classic introduction to Korean royal heritage.
- Insadong and Bukchon: galleries, tea houses and traditional streets; respect residential visiting restrictions.
- Cheonggyecheon Stream: a pleasant central-city walk when temperatures are comfortable.
